Head spa in Pleasant Grove, Utah.

The Sun-Soak Hair Ritual is Soleil’s signature head spa — a deep cleanse, warm scalp massage, and conditioning experience designed to leave your scalp lighter and your hair noticeably softer. Available solo or as a couples ritual.

If you’ve been seeing head spa videos all over your feed and wondering whether the experience holds up — it does. Head spa is a Japanese-origin ritual that treats the scalp the way a good facial treats the face: deep, intentional cleansing followed by stimulation, hydration, and rest. The version we offer at Soleil is called the Sun-Soak Hair Ritual, and it’s quickly become one of our most-loved treatments.

Soleil Spa is one of the only studios in Utah County with a dedicated head spa room, and our Sun-Soak Ritual is built specifically for the people who tell us they’re tired of the way regular salon shampoo bowls feel — short, rushed, surface-level. This is the opposite. You’ll lie back, fully reclined, while a trained therapist works through every layer of scalp tension and product buildup you’ve been carrying around. Most clients tell us they don’t realize how heavy their scalp felt until afterward, when it doesn’t.

What is a head spa, exactly?

A head spa treatment is a multi-step scalp and hair experience that goes far beyond a regular wash. The goal isn’t to style your hair — it’s to clean, treat, and reset your scalp, with hair softness and shine as a happy side effect. Here’s what makes the Sun-Soak Ritual different from “a fancy shampoo”:

Scalp-first, hair-second. A regular salon wash treats your hair. Head spa treats your scalp — which is skin, and like the skin on your face, benefits from deep cleansing, exfoliation, and massage. Healthier scalp, healthier hair growth, less itch, less buildup.

Reclined and unhurried. No tipping your head over a salon bowl for four minutes. You’re lying flat in a dim treatment room for the entire ritual, with warm towels, soft music, and a therapist whose only job for that hour is your scalp.

Therapeutic, not transactional. Most clients leave a head spa session feeling closer to how they feel after a great massage than how they feel after a haircut. It’s a wellness treatment that happens to involve your hair.

The Sun-Soak Hair Ritual at Soleil

We offer two versions of the ritual: solo for one client at a time, or couples in a shared room. Both follow the same protocol — same warm cleanse, same scalp massage, same finishing treatment. The couples version is the same time and care, side by side.

Solo

Sun-Soak Hair Ritual

A reclined, single-client session in our dedicated head spa room. Includes scalp consultation, deep cleanse, warm oil scalp massage, conditioning treatment, and a gentle blow-out finish. The full experience runs the length of the session — there’s no rushing.

Together

Couples Sun-Soak Ritual

Two clients, two therapists, side by side in a private suite. Each person gets the full Sun-Soak experience individually. Most-booked as a date, an anniversary, or a “we both need this” reset. Pairs beautifully with a couples massage to make a half-day spa visit.

What’s in the ritual

If you’ve never had a head spa, here’s what to expect from start to finish so you can show up relaxed instead of guessing:

01

Scalp consultation

A quick look at your scalp under good light. Your therapist will check for buildup, dryness, irritation, or congestion and choose products to match what they see.

02

Deep cleanse

A clarifying first wash to break up product residue, sweat, and oil. This is the part that surprises most people — they didn’t realize how much was on their scalp.

03

Warm oil massage

The signature step. Warm oil applied across the scalp with slow, intentional pressure that works through every tension point. This is where most clients fall fully asleep.

04

Conditioning soak

Hair mask applied root to tip, wrapped in warmth, and left to soak while you rest. This is what gives the “did I get a haircut?” softness afterward.

05

Rinse & finish

Final rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle, then a gentle towel-dry and rough blow-out. You leave clean, soft, and a little surprised at how light your head feels.

You don’t realize how heavy your scalp has been carrying everything until someone takes it off for an hour.

A Sun-Soak regular

What clients notice after a Sun-Soak

People come to head spa for a lot of different reasons, and most of them leave reporting effects they didn’t expect. Here’s what we hear most:

Lighter scalp, less tension

If you carry stress in your shoulders and jaw, you probably carry it in your scalp too. Most clients describe their head feeling “noticeably lighter” walking out.

Hair that feels new

A clean scalp + a deep conditioning soak = hair that feels softer, looks shinier, and behaves better for several weeks afterward.

Less itch and flake

For clients dealing with dry scalp, dandruff, or product buildup, a regular head spa cadence makes a noticeable difference compared to over-the-counter treatments alone.

Genuine stress relief

The scalp is rich in nerve endings. Slow, sustained pressure on the right points sends your nervous system into the same parasympathetic shift as a good massage.

Better sleep that night

Almost universal feedback. Most clients schedule their next ritual specifically for the night they need to sleep well.

Headache softening

Tension headaches and clients who hold stress in their temples often get the most dramatic relief. Not a medical claim — just consistent client feedback.

Couples head spa in Utah County

The Couples Sun-Soak is one of our most-requested experiences for date nights, anniversaries, and “let’s do something different” weekends. Both clients are in the same private suite, each on their own reclined treatment chair, with their own therapist working in parallel. You can talk through the cleanse if you want, or stay quiet and just be in the same room.

Couples often pair it with a couples massage in the same visit — head spa first, then transition to the massage suite. We can build that out as a custom spa day for you when you book; just let the front desk know and we’ll coordinate the timing.

Session length and pricing

The Sun-Soak Hair Ritual is offered as a single-length session — designed to fit the full protocol without rushing any step. Couples and solo bookings run the same length per person.

Current pricing is on the booking page. Pricing is updated periodically, so we keep the live rate at the booking link rather than listing it here.

Most clients who try a head spa for the first time book themselves on a 4–8 week cadence afterward, especially if they’re dealing with dry scalp, build-up, or just want to keep that “first appointment” feeling going.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a regular salon shampoo?

A salon shampoo is a 4-minute step before a haircut. A head spa is a 60+ minute reclined ritual focused entirely on your scalp and hair, with multiple cleansing and treatment phases, slow scalp massage, warm oil, and conditioning soaks. The closest comparison isn’t a shampoo — it’s the difference between washing your face at home and getting a facial.

Should I come with clean or dirty hair?

Either is fine. The deep cleanse is built into the ritual, so it doesn’t matter how clean your hair is when you arrive. If anything, slightly day-old hair gives the cleanse more to work with — but don’t stress about it either way.

Will my hair feel greasy after the warm oil?

No — the oil is fully rinsed out as part of the ritual, and the final step seals the cuticle so hair feels light and clean. Most clients leave with hair that feels softer than usual, not weighed down.

Is this safe for color-treated hair?

Yes. Our products are color-safe, and the ritual is gentle on processed hair. Many clients with color, balayage, or extensions book the Sun-Soak specifically because it leaves their hair feeling restored without disrupting their color.

How long is the appointment?

Plan for about 75 minutes total — that includes the full ritual plus the brief consult and towel-dry at the end. If you’ve added a head spa onto a couples spa day or are pairing it with a massage, we’ll lay out the full timeline at booking.

Can I book head spa with a massage in the same visit?

Absolutely — and a lot of clients do. The most common combo is a 60-minute massage followed by the Sun-Soak Ritual, or vice versa. Let the front desk know when you book and we’ll sequence the appointments so there’s no awkward gap. Couples often build this combo into a half-day spa visit.

Is head spa good for thinning hair or hair growth?

It can support a healthier scalp environment, which matters for hair growth — improved circulation, removal of buildup, and reduced inflammation are all good for follicles. We won’t promise it’ll regrow hair (that depends on a lot of factors outside scalp care). What we will say is that scalp health is a real foundation for hair health, and a regular head spa cadence is one of the better things you can do for it.

How often should I come back?

Most regulars settle into a 4–8 week rhythm. If you have specific scalp concerns (oily, dry, itch, buildup), more frequent visits in the first month or two help reset things, then taper to maintenance.
